HORNBECK TRAILS conditions February 25, 2016:

It has been very warm and dry recently, with no new snow.  The trails still have an adequate snow cover, but some bare spots are starting to creep in from the sides.  We are planning to groom the trails Friday night in preparation for the Mooseheart Loppet on Saturday.  Conditions should be OK for the loppet, but deteriorating with the freeze/thaw cycles forecast over the next week.  Periods of snow are forecast for Monday – if that happens, ski conditions should improve for a few days.  The back of the 15K trail has bare spots and stretches of dirty snow.
Everybody is encouraged to come out and ski the annual Mooseheart Loppet on Saturday.  Choose you distance (1K, 2.5K. 5K, 10K or 15K) and technique (skate or classical).  Registration opens at 9 am, with the mass start at 11 am.  Direct any loppet questions to Chief of Loppet Ralph Rix at [email protected] or 780-723-5145.
