Canada to Host Back-to-Back World Cup Finals in Cross-Country Skiing

—Quebec to host Finals in 2019, Canmore to celebrate 15 years of World Cup racing by staging season finale in 2020—

CANMORE, Alta.—The world’s best cross-country skiers are coming back for another battle on Canada’s Plains of Abraham in Quebec City, and to test their fitness in Canmore, Alta.’s spectacular Rocky Mountains for the World Cup Finals in 2019 and 2020.

Cross Country Ski de Fond Canada was awarded back-to-back World Cup Finals for the first time ever at the International Ski Federation’s (FIS) recent annual congress. Quebec City will also host the penultimate event on the World Cup calendar in 2020 – one-week prior Canmore staging the season finale.

“Each time we host a World Cup we witness the passion for cross-country skiing in Quebec City and Canmore. The Plains of Abraham and Canmore Nordic Centre are quite simply two of the most unique Nordic venues in the world,” said Shane Pearsall, chief executive officer, Cross Country Ski de Fond Canada.

Position Opening – High Performance Coach

The Alpine Insurance Alberta World Cup Academy (Alpine Insurance AWCA) has a current opening for a High Performance Coach for the 2017/18 competition year, November through March.  This position could lead to a full-time contract for the 2018/19 training and competition season.

What is the Fast and Female Calgary Summit?

It’s a fun-filled, active, and inspiring event for girls 8-18 year olds. Meet Olympian and elite Ambassadors in this non-competitive environment, focused on providing girls the tools and resources to keep them participating in sport throughout thier teens.
There’s a seminar for parents and coaches too! Registered Psychologists Tasha Belix and Sally Powis-Campbell will speak about “Understanding Anxiety” in Girls and “Food and Mood,” respectively. Marin McCue is an author and mind-body coach who will move you with her candid sharing of her incredible journey through mental health struggles and sport.

On October 13-14, the Alpine Insurance Alberta World Cup Academy and the Capital Region Training Group (CRTG) are jointly hosting a dry land training camp for young (11 and 24 years old) cross-country skiers from across Central and Northern Alberta. High performance athletes from both these teams will be leading many of the sessions for the younger skiers attending the camp and older regional athletes are invited to join the team athletes for some training sessions for older skiers. And while the Academy and CRTG team athletes are coaching all the regional youth for most sessions at the camp, the team coaches from the Academy and CRTG will be facilitating technical discussions and practical technical sessions on a variety of topics throughout the two camp days.  This camp is sanctioned by Cross Country Alberta.

When: October 13-15, 2017
