Alberta was crowned the Haywood NorAm Western Divisions Champion over the weekend of January 19-20 in Red Deer, AB. Hundreds of athletes from all over Alberta shared the joy of holding the Fischer Swix Trophy.

Congratulations to all clubs who competed! Huge thanks to all coaches, volunteers, parents, spectators, race organizers and sponsors. The success of the 2018 Westerns and Alberta Cup 5/6 was possible thanks to you!

Jackrabbit Toque Design Contest 2019

Hello to all Jackrabbits and Bunnyrabbits!  
 
 We invite all Jackrabbit and Bunnyrabbit skiers to participate in designing the 2019 Jackrabbit Toque, which will be worn by 10,500 Jackabbit and Bunnyrabbit skiers across Canada!

The criteria for entering in the contest are as follows: 
  • Contestants must be currently enrolled in a CCC Jackrabbit or Bunnyrabbit program
  • Contestants must be between the ages of 5-9.

Selection process and timelines:

  • Cross Country Canada will select 10 final designs and post them on the CCC Facebook page for you to vote on. The voting period will run from March 6 to March 13, 2018 until noon (MST) Please remember that only CCC members are eligible to vote!
  • Announcement of the ‘winning’ toque design will be posted on CCC’s Facebook page and website on March 14, 2018.

Western Canadians & Alberta Cup 5/6 Update

Red Deer is hosting the combined Haywood NorAm Western Canadian Cross Country Ski Championships and Peavey Mart Alberta Cup 5/6. These races will bring both elite skiers from Canada and the United States and the youth of this region to race for points and prize money at River Bend Golf ski trails in less than a week. This is the “test event” for the Canada Winter Games coming to Red Deer in 2019.

We have more than 300 racers registered as of morning, Friday, January 12, 2018. Regular registration will close tonight, followed by late registration closing on Tuesday, January 16, 2018. We are expecting over 400 competitors plus coaches, technicians and spectators for three days of exciting sport. We have over 150 volunteers ready to show their support of Nordic skiing in Red Deer during this event. These races will build anticipation for the upcoming Canada Winter Games in 2019, and showcase the new trails and venue developments at River Bend. We invite you to come and report on this exciting event. When you arrive please proceed to the Race office where we can provide you with information about the 2018 Haywood NorAm Western Canadians and Peavey Mart Alberta Cup 5/6 races.

Junior Women’s Student-Athlete Grant

The Cross Country Canada Women’s Committee is committed to supporting Junior Women undertaking full time study and competing at National Level. The committee recognizes that the financial challenges associated with attending university and travel to national level competitions are a major contributor to the poor retention of female athletes from Junior to U23 level competition. Through these grants the committee hopes to encourage the continuation of the next generation of female cross country skiers to national and international success.

L2T On-Snow Workshop Spots Available!

CCI (L2T) On-Snow Workshop (16,5 hrs): This is the second half of the CCI (L2T) program and the fourth step in the NCCP progression.  This workshop is designed to train coaches on team management, supporting athletes at a competition, teaching and learning, equipment selection, ski preparation and how to effectively teach intermediate-level ski technique. Successful completion of the NCCP CCI (L2T) Dryland Workshop is a prerequisite.
